Question 1

How does the random name picker work?

Accepted Answer

NameWheel uses a cryptographically secure random number generator to ensure completely fair and unbiased selection. When you spin the wheel, it generates a random rotation between 5-8 full spins plus a random angle, making the outcome truly unpredictable. The wheel uses physics-based animation to create a realistic spinning effect.

Question 2

Is the name picker truly random and fair?

Accepted Answer

Yes! NameWheel is designed with fairness as a core principle. Every name on the wheel has an exactly equal probability of being selected, regardless of when it was added or its position on the wheel. The random selection algorithm is transparent and cannot be manipulated. Learn more on our Fairness Guarantee page.

Question 3

Can I use NameWheel for classroom activities?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! NameWheel is perfect for teachers and educators. Use it to randomly select students for answering questions, choose group leaders, pick presentation order, or make classroom decisions fair and fun. The visual spinning wheel keeps students engaged and excited. Check out our Classroom Name Picker tool for education-specific features.

Question 4

How do I share my wheel with others?

Accepted Answer

After adding your names, click the 'Share Wheel' button to get a custom URL containing your name list. Anyone with this link can view and spin the same wheel. This is perfect for remote teams, online contests, or sharing with friends and family.

Question 5

Can I save my name lists?

Accepted Answer

Yes! NameWheel automatically saves your name list in your browser's local storage, so your names will still be there when you return. You can also bookmark your custom share link to access specific name lists anytime.

Question 6

How many names can I add to the wheel?

Accepted Answer

You can add up to 500 names to a single wheel. For most use cases like classroom selection (20-40 names), team building (5-20 names), or raffles (50-200 names), this limit is more than sufficient. If you need to work with larger lists, consider using our Group Generator to split them into manageable sets.

Question 7

Can I remove the winner after spinning?

Accepted Answer

Yes! After the wheel selects a winner, you have the option to remove that name from the wheel. This is useful for raffles where each person can only win once, or when selecting multiple people in sequence without repetition.

Question 8

Does NameWheel work on mobile devices?

Accepted Answer

NameWheel is fully responsive and optimized for mobile phones and tablets. The spinning animation works smoothly on touch screens, and all features are accessible on any device. No app download required - just open the website in your mobile browser.

Question 9

Do I need to create an account or register?

Question 10

Can I use NameWheel for giveaways and contests?

The transparent random selection process ensures fairness, and you can share the spinning wheel with participants to demonstrate the randomness. Many content creators and businesses use NameWheel for Instagram giveaways, YouTube contests, and promotional raffles.
