Why Use This Tool?
When the same volunteers answer every question, it can be hard to vary participation. Add your roster to the classroom name picker and spin to select an entry. Remove the selected entry to take that slot out of later spins; use one entry per student if you want to avoid selecting a person twice.
How to Use
1. Add Student Names
Enter names manually or paste a roster copied from a spreadsheet or text file into the list field. You can add up to 100 names.
2. Customize the Wheel
Remove students who are absent, or keep all names on the wheel. The tool automatically adjusts the segments based on your list.
3. Spin to Select
Click the wheel to select a name from your list. Repeated results are possible; remove a selected name when you want to avoid repeats during the same activity.
4. Remove & Repeat
After a spin, remove the selected entry to take that slot out of later spins. If a student's name appears more than once, remove the duplicate entries too when you want to exclude that student for the session.
Perfect For
- •Cold Calling: Randomly choose from the names entered. After a result, choose Remove in the winner dialog to take that entry out of later spins.
- •Presentation Order: Determine the sequence for student presentations or show-and-tell sessions without favoritism.
- •Reading Assignments: Pick students to read paragraphs aloud during literature or language arts lessons.
- •Classroom Jobs: Assign weekly classroom responsibilities like line leader, door holder, or board eraser fairly and randomly.
- •Partner Selection: Create random pairs for think-pair-share activities or collaborative assignments.
Key Benefits
- ✓Makes the Selection Visible: The wheel displays the entries you provide and the selected result. Review the list and classroom expectations before using it.
- ✓Increases Engagement: Use the wheel as one way to invite participation alongside volunteers and other classroom routines.
- ✓Builds Confidence: Teachers can include a wider range of students in the list and set expectations before spinning.
- ✓Saves Time: Choose Remove in the winner dialog to take the selected entry out of later spins.
- ✓Makes Learning Fun: The spinning wheel adds gamification to classroom activities, making even routine tasks more engaging.
Tips for Best Results
Project the wheel on your smartboard so students can see the entries and selected result. Use one entry per student and remove each selected entry when you want a no-repeat sequence. A shared or bookmarked URL can contain the entries you add, so check it before sharing.
A Visible Way to Choose from a Class List
A visible wheel presents the roster entries and the selected result. Project it when you want a shared selection moment, or keep it on your own screen for quieter participation routines. Use one entry per student if you want each student represented once.
Built for Real Classroom Workflows
Paste your roster directly from a spreadsheet, remove absent entries, and choose Remove in the winner dialog when you want to take a selected entry out of later spins. For one turn per student, make sure each student appears once in the list. Sign in and use Save Wheel to store a separate roster for each class in My Wheels.
Privacy-First for Schools
Use first names, initials, or roster numbers when school policy calls for data minimization. Shared wheel links can contain the entries you add, so review your school's privacy rules before sharing a roster URL or using the tool with identifiable student information.
